EPCOT

Two parks in one: a science campus up front, eleven countries around a lake.

EPCOT is two parks wearing one gate. The front half — World Celebration, World Discovery and World Nature — is the science-campus idea Walt Disney World opened in 1982: a geodesic sphere with a ride inside it, a working greenhouse you sail through, a 5.7-million-gallon aquarium, and a launched roller coaster in the shell of the old energy pavilion. The back half is World Showcase, a lake ringed by eleven country pavilions with restaurants, shops, films, galleries and two of the park's headline rides.

Those halves want different things from you. The front rewards an early start and a plan: Test Track, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Soarin' all build serious lines within an hour of opening and never really let go. The back rewards the opposite — a slow lap, a reservation, a drink you did not plan on, and a willingness to walk into a small dark gallery that nobody else is in. Trying to do both at the same pace is how people end up exhausted by 4 PM.

The park is roughly 300 acres, about twice the size of Magic Kingdom, and the walking is the single most underestimated fact about visiting. World Showcase Lagoon is about a mile and a quarter around, the promenade has long stretches with little shade, and the far pavilions are a genuine fifteen-minute walk from the front gate. Wear real shoes. Use the back entrance at International Gateway when it makes sense.

The last few years have changed the planning maths meaningfully. Test Track reopened in July 2025 as its third version under a returning General Motors sponsorship, and — importantly — it sits on Lightning Lane Multi Pass rather than Single Pass, which makes it one of the better value selections in the park. Cosmic Rewind no longer uses a virtual queue at all, so there is nothing to tap for at 7 AM; it runs a standard standby line with Single Pass sold separately.

Where EPCOT is unambiguously the best park at Walt Disney World is food. There are eleven national kitchens, a proper French bakery, a working wood-fired pizzeria, a tequila bar with hundreds of labels, and a bakery counter in Norway selling the best five-dollar item on the entire resort. If you plan one thing here, plan where you are eating.

Food

What to eat here

Our highest-priority items in EPCOT. Mark them on the tracker and they save to your device.

Avocado Margarita

La Cava del Tequila

$18

Blended avocado, tequila, lime and agave, served frozen with a salted rim. It comes out pale green and thicker than a standard frozen margarita.

Our take: It sounds like a bad idea and it is the best cocktail at EPCOT — creamy, not sweet, and the one drink here worth queueing for.

Do not leave without it Drink VeganGluten-friendly Walkable

Beverly

Club Cool

A bitter Italian aperitivo soda poured free from the self-serve fountain at Club Cool, where it sits among the sweet international flavors and costs nothing at all.

Our take: It tastes like grapefruit rind and regret, and drinking it is a genuine EPCOT rite of passage. Free, so the only cost is your dignity. Do it once, never twice.

Do not leave without it Drink VeganGluten-friendly

Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup

Le Cellier Steakhouse

$13

A thick soup of aged white cheddar with bacon and a splash of ale, served with a warm pretzel bread roll.

Our take: The most requested dish at EPCOT and it earns it. People who do not otherwise eat soup order this one. Ask for extra pretzel bread — they will bring it.

Do not leave without it Savory

Grand Marnier Orange Slush

Les Vins des Chefs de France kiosk

$14.50

Frozen orange slush with a float of Grand Marnier poured over the top, served from the outdoor wine kiosk in front of Les Chefs de France.

Our take: The drink longtime EPCOT visitors cross the park for, and it deserves the reputation. Ask for the extra Grand Marnier float — it is worth the upcharge.

Do not leave without it Drink VeganGluten-friendly Walkable

Jambon-Beurre Baguette

Les Halles Boulangerie-Pâtisserie

$12.50

Ham and butter on a fresh baguette. Nothing else — no lettuce, no mayonnaise, no cheese.

Our take: The smartest lunch at EPCOT. Twelve dollars, made on genuinely good bread, and better than plenty of twenty-eight-dollar plates a hundred feet away.

Do not leave without it Savory Walkable

$22

Individual wood-fired Neapolitan pizza with San Marzano-style tomato, mozzarella and basil, blistered at the edge and soft in the middle.

Our take: The best pizza at Walt Disney World, full stop. Order the large for a group and it becomes the best value table-service food in the park.

Things worth knowing before you go

Walk World Showcase counterclockwise

Almost everyone turns left toward Mexico. Start at Canada instead and you spend the whole afternoon walking against the flow rather than inside it — shorter queues at the Kidcot stops, easier photos, and you reach the far pavilions before the crowd does.

Test Track's single rider line is the best time-saver in the park

It is on the far right of the entrance, it is barely signposted, and it typically runs at a fifth of the standby wait. You skip the vehicle design station and get split from your party, which for a five-minute ride is a trade worth making almost every time.

Ask for Concourse B, row 1 on Soarin'

The middle theater section puts you at the center of the dome and the front row means no dangling feet in your field of view. Cast members grant this routinely if you ask when they are sorting you into concourses, not once you are at the seats.

The last ninety minutes are the best ninety minutes

While thousands of people hold rail positions for the nighttime show, Test Track and Cosmic Rewind shed thirty to fifty minutes of wait. The show is visible from all the way around the lagoon — ride first, then walk up at the ten-minute mark.

Use International Gateway

The back entrance between the United Kingdom and France has its own security and its own rental counter. It cuts a mile of walking off both ends of the day for anyone on the Skyliner or in the Boardwalk area, and it clears far faster than the main gate after the fireworks.

The free galleries are the best-kept secret in the park

Mexico's folk art room, Norway's Stave Church, the American Heritage Gallery, Japan's Bijutsu-kan and Morocco's gallery are all free, all air-conditioned, and all effectively empty. Ten minutes in any of them beats a fifth lap of the promenade.

Book one table and improvise the rest

Reserve the hard one — Le Cellier, Space 220 or Via Napoli — sixty days out, and fill the rest of the day from the counters. Spice Road Table, Tutto Gusto and Nine Dragons all take walk-ups when the rest of the loop is booked solid.

Watch the weather for the outdoor attractions

Test Track's speed loop and the Skyliner both shut down in lightning, which in Florida summer is close to a daily event. Ride Test Track in the morning on a stormy forecast and always have a bus plan for the Skyliner.

Eat the cheap things

School Bread in Norway at about five dollars, the jambon-beurre at Les Halles at about twelve, the shawarma platter at Tangierine Café at about eighteen, and the bratwurst in a pretzel roll at Sommerfest at about twelve are all better than several thirty-dollar entrees on the same loop.

Bring a real water strategy

Free cups of ice water are available at any quick-service counter, and the promenade has long shadeless stretches between pavilions. Refill at Regal Eagle, Sunshine Seasons or Tangierine Café — all three have indoor counters and no queue for water.

Getting there

Parking

The main lot sits directly in front of the park with trams running to the entrance. Standard self-parking is charged per vehicle per day and is free for Walt Disney World resort guests; preferred parking costs more and puts you near the front rows. Note your row before you walk away — the lot is enormous and the tram stops all look identical.

At the entrance

EPCOT has two entrances. The main gate sits under Spaceship Earth at the north end; International Gateway sits between the United Kingdom and France pavilions at the back of World Showcase and has its own security screening, Guest Relations window and wheelchair and stroller rentals. If your day starts or ends in World Showcase, International Gateway saves close to a mile of walking and clears far faster after the nighttime show.

How to get here

  • Monorail: the EPCOT line runs to the Transportation and Ticket Center, where you transfer to the Resort or Express loop for Magic Kingdom. Allow a full hour park-to-park including the transfer and security.
  • Disney Skyliner: gondolas serve International Gateway at the back of World Showcase, connecting to Riviera, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, Art of Animation and Disney's Hollywood Studios. It is the fastest link to Hollywood Studios by a wide margin. Cabins are not air-conditioned and the system stops in lightning.
  • Buses: run to the main entrance from resorts not served by monorail, Skyliner or boat.
  • Boats: Friendship launches connect International Gateway with the Boardwalk-area resorts and Disney's Hollywood Studios.
  • Walking: it is a genuinely pleasant walk from the Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin to International Gateway — roughly five to fifteen minutes depending on the resort.

EPCOT questions, answered

How many days do you need at EPCOT?

One long day covers the rides and a lap of World Showcase. A day and a half is the honest answer if you want to eat properly, see the films and galleries, and not be marching. Repeat visitors frequently split it into one morning for the front-half rides and one evening for World Showcase.

What are the height requirements at EPCOT?

Five attractions have them: Test Track at 40 inches, Soarin' Around the World at 40 inches, Mission: SPACE Green at 40 inches and Orange at 44 inches, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at 42 inches. Nothing else in the park has a minimum height, including Frozen Ever After and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure.

Does Cosmic Rewind still use a virtual queue?

No. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind dropped its virtual queue and now runs a standard standby line with Lightning Lane Single Pass sold separately. As of mid-2026 no attraction at Walt Disney World or Disneyland permanently uses a virtual queue.

Is Test Track on Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass?

Multi Pass. It is included in the standard day purchase rather than sold à la carte, which makes it one of the best value selections at EPCOT. Cosmic Rewind is the park's only Single Pass attraction.

Which Lightning Lane selections are worth making at EPCOT?

Frozen Ever After, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and Test Track, in roughly that order for families and the reverse for adults. Do not spend selections on Spaceship Earth, Living with the Land or Journey Into Imagination — their standby lines are short all day.

Is EPCOT good for young children?

Better than its reputation. Remy's, Frozen Ever After, Gran Fiesta Tour, Living with the Land, The Seas and Turtle Talk all have no height requirement, and the Kidcot stops give kids a reason to care about the walking. What it lacks is volume — there simply are not as many rides as at Magic Kingdom.

How long does it take to walk around World Showcase?

The lagoon promenade is about a mile and a quarter, so a continuous walk takes roughly twenty-five to thirty minutes without stopping. A proper lap with pavilions, galleries and a meal takes four to five hours.

Where is the best place to watch the nighttime show?

The show is built for 360-degree viewing, so there is no single front. The promenade between Italy and the American Adventure gives you a wide sightline, actual space, and an easy exit. Avoid the bridges near the main entrance unless you enjoy crowds.

What is the best food at EPCOT?

School Bread at Kringla in Norway, the jambon-beurre at Les Halles in France, a pizza at Via Napoli in Italy, the shawarma platter at Tangierine Café in Morocco, and the cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier in Canada. The turkey leg is the most overrated item in the park.

Can you enter EPCOT from the back?

Yes. International Gateway between the United Kingdom and France is a full entrance with its own security and rental counters, served by the Skyliner and by walking paths from the Boardwalk-area resorts. It is the faster way in and out for anyone staying nearby.

Is Mission: SPACE really that intense?

The Orange mission is. It is a genuine centrifuge producing sustained G-force in a sealed capsule, and motion sickness bags are provided. The Green mission uses the same capsules without rotation and is comparatively gentle. If you are unsure, ride Green first.

What is the tallest height requirement at EPCOT?

Forty-four inches, for the Mission: SPACE Orange mission. That is the highest minimum in the park — Cosmic Rewind is 42 inches and everything else with a requirement is 40.
