Liberty Square is the smallest land at Magic Kingdom and the only one that exists nowhere else in the Disney parks. It is styled as a colonial American town in the years around independence, with a brick-and-clapboard aesthetic, a replica Liberty Bell, and a large live oak hung with thirteen lanterns.

The Haunted Mansion is the reason most people come. Nine minutes of comic gothic staging in a swivelling doom buggy, built around Victorian stage illusions rather than screens, with an interactive queue that is worth arriving early for. It is the most carefully written attraction in the park and it holds up on a tenth ride.

The Hall of Presidents is the other pole — a twenty-three-minute film and animatronic roll call in an enormous, aggressively air-conditioned theater with essentially no line at any hour. Whatever you think of the subject matter, it is the single best midday recovery stop at Magic Kingdom, and regulars use it exactly that way.

The land lost its western edge in 2025. The Liberty Belle Riverboat closed permanently along with Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, the dock is behind construction walls, and the walking route between Liberty Square and Frontierland is narrower as a result. Give yourself an extra couple of minutes crossing here at parade time.

Do not miss

  • The Haunted Mansion's ballroom scene, viewed from the left side of the doom buggy
  • The pet cemetery beside the mansion exit ramp, which almost nobody stops at
  • The Hall of Presidents as a twenty-three-minute air-conditioned reset
  • Columbia Harbour House's second-floor dining rooms
  • The chicken waffle sandwich at Sleepy Hollow, eaten on the patio with a castle view

Liberty Square tips

  • Go upstairs at Columbia Harbour House. There is a full second floor of quiet, air-conditioned seating that most guests never find, even when the ground floor is full.
  • Haunted Mansion waits fall hard after dark, when Liberty Square empties toward the hub for fireworks. A posted forty-five at 8 p.m. is often twenty in practice.
  • The Hall of Presidents theater is large enough that arriving two minutes before showtime still gets you a good seat. There is no reason to queue for it.
  • Sleepy Hollow's covered patio looks straight across the water at the castle and sits beside the parade route — it is one of the best free seated views in the park.

Dark ride · 9 min · Multi Pass

Nine minutes of comic gothic staging in a doom buggy — the most carefully written attraction at Magic Kingdom.

Haunted Mansion opened in 1971 and is the clearest demonstration of what Disney's designers do when they take a joke seriously. It is a haunted house with no gore, no jump-scare payoff and no monsters — the ghosts are having a good time and you are the one intruding. That tone was argued about for years during development and the compromise it landed on is why the ride still works fifty years later.

Tips for Haunted Mansion
  • Take the interactive queue rather than the bypass on your first visit. The tombstones and the crypt organ are real effects, they respond to touch, and they are the most rewarding queue at Magic Kingdom for kids aged six and up.
  • Sit on the left in the doom buggy for the ballroom scene, which is the best-staged moment and reads correctly from the left side of the balcony. The right side gets a better look at the graveyard band later.
  • The stretching room is the scary part, not the ride. If you are worried about a child, know that once the doors shut you are in there for about ninety seconds with no exit, and that everything after it is played for laughs.
  • Waits drop hard after dark and during the afternoon parade. A posted forty-five minutes at 8 p.m. is frequently twenty in practice, because Liberty Square empties toward the hub for fireworks.
  • Look at the pet cemetery to the right of the exit ramp, tucked below the lawn. Almost nobody stops there and the headstone inscriptions are the best writing on the property.
  • The ride does not use a seatbelt or restraint beyond a lap bar, and small children can slide forward on the descent out of the attic. Keep an arm across them for that section.

The Hall of Presidents

Any height

Show · 23 min

A 23-minute film and animatronic roll call of every U.S. president, in the coldest theater at Magic Kingdom.

A widescreen film covering American history runs for roughly fifteen minutes, then the screen lifts and every president appears on stage as an audio-animatronic figure. They are individually costumed and each one moves, nods and reacts during a roll call. Two of them speak.

Tips for The Hall of Presidents
  • This is the single best midday recovery stop at Magic Kingdom. Twenty-three minutes, seated, dark, cold, and no line. Regulars use it as a nap; nobody will bother you.
  • The theater is large enough that arriving two minutes before showtime still gets you a good seat. Sit center-rear for the best view of the full stage during the roll call.
  • Take a stroller-aged child in only if they will sleep. There is no exiting mid-show without walking in front of a full theater in the dark.
  • Watch the presidents in the back rows during the roll call rather than the one speaking. The background figures are doing subtle idle animation the whole time and that is where the craftsmanship shows.

Snacks worth stopping for

Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich

Sleepy Hollow Refreshments

$14.99

Fried chicken pressed between two waffle halves with a sweet chili sauce and slaw, from the window at the Liberty Square bridge.

Our take: One of the three best things you can eat at Magic Kingdom and it costs less than a quick-service burger. Eat it on the covered patio with the castle view rather than walking with it.

Do not leave without it Savory Walkable

Fresh Fruit and Nutella Waffle

Sleepy Hollow Refreshments

$11.49

A fresh waffle topped with chocolate hazelnut spread, whipped cream and cut strawberries and bananas, served on a plate with a fork.

Our take: Good and enormous, but it is a sit-down item pretending to be street food. Split it between two and eat it at the patio tables — it does not travel.

Sweet Vegetarian

$12.99

A fried funnel cake with powdered sugar and a rotating topping, made to order at the Liberty Square window.

Our take: Fried to order and genuinely good, which is more than most park funnel cakes manage. It is far too large for one person and ordering one each is the standard expensive mistake here.

Sweet Vegetarian

Smoked Turkey Leg

Liberty Square Market

$11.75

An enormous brine-cured, smoked turkey leg sold from the open-air market stall in Liberty Square. It tastes closer to ham than to roast turkey because of the cure.

Our take: Overrated as food, undefeated as a photograph. It is salty, dense and much harder to eat while standing than anyone expects, and there is nowhere to sit nearby. Split it, or skip it.

Savory Walkable

Whole Fresh Fruit

Liberty Square Market

$2.99

Apples, bananas, oranges and grapes sold loose from the produce baskets at the Liberty Square market stall.

Our take: The most underrated purchase at Magic Kingdom. On day three of a trip, a piece of fruit for three dollars does more for a family than anything else on this list.

Snack VeganGluten-friendly Walkable

Lighthouse Sandwich

Columbia Harbour House

$11.99

Hummus and broccoli slaw on multigrain bread, served cold with a side, from the counter at Columbia Harbour House.

Our take: The best plant-based quick-service item at Magic Kingdom and it is not marketed as anything special on the menu board. Confirm the preparation at the counter if dairy is a medical issue.
