7 attractions

Hollywood Boulevard

The entrance street, running from the turnstiles to a full-scale replica of the Chinese Theatre at the far end.

Dark ride · 5 min · Multi Pass

A trackless dark ride behind the Chinese Theatre screen that turns a Mickey cartoon into eight rooms of gags, with no height requirement.

This is the ride that replaced The Great Movie Ride inside the Chinese Theatre in 2020, and it is the single best attraction in the park for a family that includes somebody under 38 inches. The premise is simple: you walk into a movie theater to watch a new Mickey Mouse cartoon, the screen turns out to be a doorway, and you spend five minutes inside the cartoon aboard a runaway train car driven by Goofy.

Tips for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
  • The queue splits into two lines just past the poster lobby. Neither is faster, but the right-hand side loads the cars with the better view of the waterfall room.
  • This ride absorbs an enormous number of people per hour, so a posted 45-minute wait usually resolves in about 30. Do not burn a Lightning Lane Multi Pass here unless the board says 60 or more.
  • It is one of the very few attractions at this park with no height requirement, which makes it the natural rider-switch-free option while your group splits for Tower of Terror.
  • Waits collapse in the last hour of the night because everyone is at Fantasmic or heading to the exit. Riding at close is the single easiest win in the park.
  • There is no on-ride photo, so you can hold a toddler on your lap for the whole ride without worrying about a camera catching a bad moment.

Citizens of Hollywood

Any height

Show · 15 min

Roaming improv performers playing 1940s Hollywood hopefuls, doing short street scenes up and down Hollywood Boulevard through the day.

A troupe of improvisers works Hollywood Boulevard in character as a fixed cast of Hollywood types: a public works crew, a starlet, a talent agent, a director, a security officer. They perform short scenes on the street, mostly unannounced, and they are the reason the front of this park has a personality that the entrance plazas of the other three Florida parks do not.

Tips for Citizens of Hollywood
  • The scheduled group sets are listed in the app under entertainment, not under attractions. Most people never look there and never see them.
  • The performers are in character before and after the set. If you talk to the talent agent on the sidewalk you will get a two-minute private scene for free.
  • Best shade is under the awnings on the east side of the boulevard, which is also where the performers tend to stage the smaller bits.
  • Repeat visitors: the cast rotates material by day of week, so a set you saw on Tuesday will not be the set you see on Saturday.

Wonderful World of Animation

Any height

Show · 12 min

A projection show on the Chinese Theatre facade that runs through nearly a century of Disney animation in about twelve minutes.

The facade of the Chinese Theatre is used as a projection surface for a rapid tour through Disney and Pixar animation, structured loosely around the idea that a single pencil line becomes everything that followed. It is a mapping show rather than a fireworks show, which means the building itself appears to fold, melt, and rebuild.

Tips for Wonderful World of Animation
  • Stand between the flagpole and the hat-shaped planter for the flattest, least distorted angle on the projection. Straight-on beats close-up here.
  • If a shorter projection reel plays first, that is a separate piece and not the main show. Do not walk off during the gap.
  • The whole boulevard is standing room, so put small children on shoulders or stand further back where the crowd thins and the sightline is actually better.
  • Repeat visitors: on nights when the show runs twice, the second showing plays to perhaps a fifth of the crowd and you can stand dead center.

Disney Movie Magic

Any height

Show · 10 min

A ten-minute projection reel of live-action Disney films on the Chinese Theatre, usually programmed just before the animation show.

This is the live-action companion piece to the animation projection show, cut from Disney's non-animated catalog: adventure films, superhero films, pirate films, the occasional musical. It leans on big orchestral moments and works best if you have actually seen the movies, which makes it a much better watch for adults than for children.

Tips for Disney Movie Magic
  • Because it starts before the crowd assembles, you can walk up two minutes before showtime and still stand center.
  • The projection is brightest and sharpest on the upper tiers of the theater facade. Stand far enough back to keep the whole building in frame.
  • Skip it entirely if you are trying to make Fantasmic. The two are scheduled tightly and the amphitheater fills faster than this street does.
  • Repeat visitors: the clip selection has been revised more than once since 2017, so a segment you remember may no longer be in the reel.

Disney Skyliner

Any height

Transportation · 15 min

The gondola line from just outside the park gate to EPCOT and four resort hotels, and the fastest way out at closing time.

The Skyliner station sits immediately outside the Hollywood Studios turnstiles, and the line from here splits at Caribbean Beach toward EPCOT's International Gateway, Riviera Resort, Pop Century and Art of Animation. It is free, it runs continuously while the parks are open, and it beats a bus in almost every direction it serves.

Tips for Disney Skyliner
  • Going to EPCOT you must change at Caribbean Beach. It is a walk across the platform, not a new queue, and it adds about four minutes.
  • If the sky looks bad and you need to be somewhere, take the bus. Skyliner shutdowns cascade and the queue after one can run past an hour.
  • Cabins have no fans and no air conditioning; the vents only work while moving. Do not board with an infant right after a stoppage.
  • Repeat visitors: request a cabin to yourself by asking at the load platform. Cast members will usually accommodate it outside peak departure, which turns the ride into a genuine break.

Friendship Boats to EPCOT and the BoardWalk

Any height

Boat ride · 20 min

The slow canal launch linking the park to the BoardWalk, Yacht and Beach Club, Swan and Dolphin, and EPCOT's back gate.

A small fleet of covered boats runs the canal between the Hollywood Studios dock, the Epcot resort hotels and the International Gateway at EPCOT. The full run to EPCOT takes about twenty minutes with all the stops, which is slower than the Skyliner but far more pleasant than standing in a bus queue.

Tips for Friendship Boats to EPCOT and the BoardWalk
  • Sit on the left side heading toward EPCOT for the better view of the BoardWalk waterfront and, on many nights, the tail end of the EPCOT fireworks over the trees.
  • Boats stop for lightning just like the Skyliner but recover faster, because the docks are sheltered.
  • The walk from the dock to the BoardWalk or Yacht Club is roughly twenty minutes on foot, so on a short queue the boat is genuinely faster, not just easier.
  • Repeat visitors: at close, the boat queue is almost always shorter than the bus queue for these five hotels, and it starts loading before the buses stage.

Mickey & Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams

Any height

Character meet · 5 min · Multi Pass

Two separate air-conditioned rooms just off Commissary Lane where you meet Mickey Mouse in one and Minnie Mouse in the other.

Tucked down the short side street between Echo Lake and the Chinese Theatre, this is a two-room character meet: Mickey Mouse in a sorcerer setting on one side, Minnie Mouse in a movie-star setting on the other. You queue once and see both, and PhotoPass photographers are in each room.

Tips for Mickey & Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams
  • The queue is one line for two rooms, so the posted wait covers both greetings. A 25-minute post is really 25 minutes for two characters.
  • Late afternoon is quietest here because everybody is queueing for rides or heading toward Sunset Boulevard.
  • Bring anything you want signed. Both characters sign, and the room is calm enough that autographs do not hold up the line.
  • Repeat visitors: this is one of the few indoor sit-and-cool-down-adjacent spots in the middle of the park, and the queue itself is an air-conditioned twenty minutes on a brutal afternoon.

Everything in Hollywood Boulevard

Echo Lake

A small lake ringed by 1940s roadside architecture, holding two of the park's three best live shows.

Simulator · 7 min · Multi Pass

A randomized 3D flight simulator through the Star Wars galaxy, with dozens of possible scene combinations so no two flights match.

Star Tours opened at this park in December 1989 as a straight simulator ride with one fixed film. In 2011 it was rebuilt from the ground up in 3D with a randomized structure, and that is the version you ride today. The ride computer assembles each flight from a pool of opening scenes, planet destinations, hologram messages and finales, which produces a very large number of possible combinations.

Tips for Star Tours: The Adventures Continue
  • The 40-inch requirement is measured strictly with shoes on. Borderline children get an all-day wristband at the first measurement so they are not re-measured at every ride.
  • Ask a cast member at the load door for a specific starting planet and they cannot help you, but the ride does bias toward newer destinations at busier times of day. Riding twice in a row almost always produces two different flights.
  • This is the single most reliable nausea trigger at the park. If you are the kind of person who cannot read in a car, ride it before you eat, not after.
  • 3D glasses are recycled bins near the exit, and there is a stack of larger frames on request for anyone wearing glasses already.
  • Repeat visitors: the pre-show scanner bit selects a rebel spy from the group standing in front of you, and standing directly beneath the scanner meaningfully raises your odds of being the one on screen.

Full guide to Star Tours: The Adventures Continue →

Stage show · 30 min · Multi Pass

A 30-minute live stunt show in a covered amphitheater that stages and then explains big-budget action sequences, running since the park opened in 1989.

This has been running since the park's opening year and the concept has never needed changing: performers stage a series of action sequences as though a film crew were shooting them, then a director character stops and explains how each effect was achieved. It works because it takes the audience seriously. The show is genuinely teaching you about squibs, breakaway props, fire gels and fall pads while entertaining you.

Tips for Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
  • Sit high and left. The upper left blocks get shade first, catch the cross breeze, and have a better view of the marketplace rooftop stunts than the center does.
  • Volunteers are chosen from people already seated when the doors open, not from the queue, so arriving early is the only way to be considered.
  • The pyrotechnics are loud enough that noise-reducing headphones are a reasonable call for sensitive kids; the concussive hits land around the twelve and twenty-five minute marks.
  • Never burn a Lightning Lane Multi Pass on this. The amphitheater holds two thousand people and standby seating almost never fills to the point of turning people away.
  • Repeat visitors: the between-scene patter changes performer to performer and the truck-fight cast improvises off the crowd, so the show is not word-for-word identical the way the projection shows are.

Stage show · 30 min · Multi Pass

An air-conditioned 30-minute sing-along in the Hyperion Theater with on-screen lyrics, two comic hosts and appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff.

Two royal historians of Arendelle narrate the story of the first Frozen film in a fast, jokey, heavily fourth-wall-breaking style, with film clips on a large screen and lyrics projected so the audience can sing. Anna, Kristoff and Elsa appear on stage at intervals, and the show ends with the song you already know, a snow effect and a lighting cue.

Tips for For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
  • The theater is the coldest room in the park. On a July afternoon this is a legitimate thirty-minute recovery, and nobody will look at you strangely for going in without children.
  • Sit in the center block from row eight back for the best angle on the character platform and the clearest read on the projected lyrics.
  • Snow falls over the front and center. If you have a child who wants to catch it, sit forward; if you have a stroller full of dry things, sit back.
  • The show is on the Lightning Lane Multi Pass list, which is almost always a waste. Standby seating rarely fills, and the theater turns over completely between shows.
  • Repeat visitors: the hosts riff on the crowd and on each other differently every performance, so the version you saw five years ago is not the version running now, even though the songs are unchanged.

Vacation Fun: An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie

Any height

Film · 10 min

A ten-minute cartoon program in the small Mickey Shorts Theater by Echo Lake, plus a walk-in photo set next door.

The Mickey Shorts Theater is a small, cool, almost always empty room that shows a compilation of the modern Mickey Mouse animated shorts strung together as a vacation story. It is not a headliner and it does not pretend to be. It is ten minutes of good animation in a chilled theater with almost no wait, which on a Florida afternoon is worth more than it sounds.

Tips for Vacation Fun: An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie
  • The theater turns over about every fifteen minutes, so a full house means a short wait, not a long one.
  • The photo set next door is a separate line from the theater. You can do one without the other.
  • It is the closest air-conditioned room to Star Tours, which makes it the natural place to park a group while one person rides.
  • Repeat visitors: the shorts program has been re-cut since the theater opened, so the running order is not the one you saw in 2020.

Meet Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight

Any height

Character meet · 3 min · Multi Pass

An indoor, air-conditioned greeting with Olaf in the Celebrity Spotlight building on the Echo Lake side of the park.

Olaf greets guests indoors at Celebrity Spotlight, the small building on the far curve of Echo Lake. The queue is short, the room is cool, and the meet itself is unhurried compared with the character lines at Magic Kingdom.

Tips for Meet Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight
  • Waits are longest in the hour right after the Frozen sing-along lets out. Go before a performance ends, not after.
  • The building is air conditioned and the queue is entirely indoors, so this is a legitimate place to cool down for fifteen minutes.
  • Ask the photographer to shoot low. Kneeling shots with a short character read much better than standing ones.
  • Repeat visitors: character assignments at this location have moved over the years, so confirm in the app rather than assuming the same character is there.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

A fourteen-acre outpost on the planet Batuu with two headliner rides, a cantina, and more built detail than any other land at Walt Disney World.

Dark ride · 18 min · Single Pass

An eighteen-minute, four-part Star Wars ride combining a simulator, a trackless dark ride, a walkthrough and a drop; widely considered the best attraction Disney has built.

Rise of the Resistance is not a ride so much as a sequence of four rides wired together. You are recruited by the Resistance, board a transport shuttle, get captured by a Star Destroyer, escape through the ship aboard a trackless vehicle while stormtroopers and AT-AT walkers shoot at you, and finally drop out of the hull in an escape pod. It runs about eighteen minutes from the first pre-show to the exit, which is roughly three times the length of a normal Disney dark ride.

Tips for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
  • This is the one attraction here that justifies buying a Lightning Lane Single Pass. If you buy exactly one Single Pass all day, buy it for this.
  • Ride it in the first hour if you are going standby. The queue does not get shorter later, and a mid-morning breakdown adds an hour to everyone's plan.
  • The trackless vehicles seat two rows of four. Ask for row one, right side, for the best view into the cannon bay sequence.
  • If the ride stops mid-experience, cast members will either restart it or walk you out with a re-entry pass. Take the pass and come back late; do not argue for a re-ride on the spot.
  • Repeat visitors: the hangar bay scene has a different stormtrooper deployment depending on which shuttle group you are with, and the interrogation-room villain varies. The ride is more variable than its reputation suggests.

Full guide to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance →

Simulator · 5 min · Multi Pass

Six guests fly the Millennium Falcon together as pilots, gunners and engineers, with the flight quality depending entirely on who gets the pilot seats.

You board the Falcon in crews of six and are assigned one of three roles: two pilots at the front controlling left-right and up-down, two gunners in the middle firing at targets, two engineers in the back mashing buttons when the ship takes damage. Everyone can see the same forward view through the cockpit windows, and everyone's inputs genuinely affect what happens on screen and how much the cabin lurches.

Tips for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Left pilot handles vertical, right pilot handles horizontal. Say that out loud to your co-pilot before you sit down and your flight will be twice as good.
  • Single rider is offered and it is the fastest queue in the park, often twenty minutes when standby is sixty. You will almost always be seated as an engineer.
  • Riding as an engineer with a motion-sensitive stomach is worse, not better, because you are furthest from the window. If you get queasy, ask for a gunner seat.
  • The standby queue is the attraction as much as the ride is. Skipping it with a Lightning Lane means missing the Falcon corridor entirely; do standby at least once.
  • Repeat visitors: your flight performance is tracked and a bad flight follows you into the Play Disney Parks app as a reputation hit with the in-land factions, which changes some app interactions in the land.

Full guide to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run →

Interactive game · 20 min

A twenty-minute paid ceremony where you assemble a custom lightsaber hilt from four design themes; around $250 plus tax as of July 2026.

Savi's Workshop is a paid experience rather than an attraction, and it is the most expensive thing a guest can do inside Hollywood Studios on an ordinary day. You reserve a slot, you pay roughly $250 plus tax as of July 2026, and you spend twenty minutes in a dim workshop building a lightsaber hilt from a tray of parts under the direction of a performer.

Tips for Savi's Workshop: Handbuilt Lightsabers
  • Book the earliest slot of the day. The room is coolest, the performers are freshest, and you avoid carrying a large case around for eight hours.
  • Only the builder gets a saber; each builder may bring one guest into the room. A family of four with two builders needs two reservations.
  • Reservations open on the app and by phone well in advance and the good slots go quickly, but cancellations release constantly. Check the day before.
  • The hard case does not fit in a ride locker at some attractions. Ask about package delivery to the front of the park, or to your Disney resort if you are staying on property.
  • Repeat visitors: the four hilt themes have not changed, but the individual parts within each tray have been revised, so a second build produces a genuinely different hilt rather than a duplicate.

Full guide to Savi's Workshop: Handbuilt Lightsabers →

Droid Depot

Any height

Interactive game · 15 min

A build-your-own remote-controlled droid workshop where you pick parts off a conveyor and assemble a working unit in about fifteen minutes.

Droid Depot is the cheaper and more child-friendly of the two build experiences in Galaxy's Edge. You choose a chassis, pull parts off a moving conveyor, assemble them at a counter with a cast member's help, and walk out with a remote-controlled droid that reacts to elements placed around the land.

Tips for Droid Depot
  • Reservations are recommended but walk-up slots open regularly, especially in the first hour and the last two hours of the day.
  • Carry the droid in the box while you tour. The unpacked droid does not survive being jostled in a bag, and the boxes are awkward on rides.
  • Take the finished droid to the doorways around the marketplace and the docking bay; it reacts to hidden transmitters and that is the free part of the experience most people never try.
  • Repeat visitors: personality chips bought on a previous trip still work with a new build, so a second droid does not need a second chip.

Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities

Any height

Walkthrough · 10 min

A dim curiosity shop run by a full-size animatronic proprietor, with more genuine set dressing than most walkthrough attractions in the park.

Nominally this is a store. Functionally it is the best free walkthrough in Galaxy's Edge, because the room is packed with props referencing the films and the shopkeeper behind the counter is a full-size animatronic who moves, speaks and reacts to a soundtrack of haggling.

Tips for Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities
  • Go around the left side of the counter and look behind the shopkeeper. The best props are in the back alcove that most people walk past.
  • The animatronic runs a repeating cycle of a few minutes; wait for a full loop if you want to hear him actually speak rather than mutter.
  • It is a genuine air-conditioned break with no purchase required, unlike the cantina next door.
  • Repeat visitors: the legacy lightsaber hilts sold here change stock periodically and a hilt available on one trip may not be on the shelf the next.

Star Wars: Datapad in Play Disney Parks

Any height

Interactive game · 60 min

A free phone-based layer over Galaxy's Edge that lets you hack panels, scan crates, translate signs and pick a side between factions.

The Play Disney Parks app turns Galaxy's Edge into a playable space. You can point your phone at crates to scan their contents, hack door panels, tune into ship-to-ship transmissions, translate the alien signage that is written throughout the land, and take on jobs from the three in-land factions.

Tips for Star Wars: Datapad in Play Disney Parks
  • Download the app and the Galaxy's Edge content pack before you arrive. Downloading it on park wifi at the entrance wastes twenty minutes.
  • Choosing a faction early changes which jobs you get offered, and your flight performance on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run feeds into your standing with them.
  • Bring a battery pack. An hour of scanning will take a phone from full to roughly half.
  • Repeat visitors: your progress persists between trips on the same account, so a partially finished job list from a previous visit is still waiting.

Galaxy's Edge Character Encounters

Any height

Character meet · 5 min

Unscheduled roaming appearances by Rey, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, stormtroopers and Vi Moradi throughout Black Spire Outpost.

There is no character meet building in Galaxy's Edge and no posted schedule. Instead performers appear in the streets of Black Spire Outpost, work an area for fifteen or twenty minutes, and move on. Rey and Chewbacca tend to appear near the resistance side of the land, stormtroopers patrol the marketplace, and the dark-side characters stage near the docking bay.

Tips for Galaxy's Edge Character Encounters
  • Encounters are most frequent in the first two hours after opening and again in the last two hours of the night. The middle of the afternoon is thin.
  • Children in Star Wars costume get pulled into bits far more often than adults do. That is by design, and it is the cheapest way to guarantee an interaction.
  • PhotoPass photographers shadow the roaming performers. Look for the photographer to find the character rather than the other way around.
  • Repeat visitors: the marketplace alleyways behind the main path are used as staging routes, so standing near the ends of them puts you first in front of a character who is about to appear.

Toy Story Land

An oversized backyard where you are scaled to toy size, holding three rides and no shade whatsoever.

Slinky Dog Dash

38"97cm

Roller coaster · 2 min · Multi Pass

A two-launch outdoor family coaster over the top of Toy Story Land, and the hardest ride in this park to get on without a plan.

Slinky Dog Dash is a family coaster with two launch sections, a run of low airtime hills and a layout that climbs above the rest of Toy Story Land. It is not fast by coaster standards and it does not invert, but it is genuinely fun, and it is the ride at Hollywood Studios with the worst wait-to-length ratio in the park: two minutes of ride behind an hour of queue is routine.

Tips for Slinky Dog Dash
  • Back row for airtime, front row for the view. Ask at the load platform and the wait for the back is usually one or two extra trains.
  • This should be your first Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection of the day, ahead of Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, because the standby alternative is so much worse.
  • If you are going standby, go at rope drop or in the last 45 minutes before close. Both routinely produce waits under 25 minutes; the middle of the day does not.
  • The queue has almost no shade. If someone in your group is heat-sensitive, this is the single line at Hollywood Studios where you should use rider switch and split up rather than all stand in it.
  • Repeat visitors: night rides are meaningfully better. The land's lighting turns the layout into something worth looking at, and the second launch reads much faster in the dark.

Dark ride · 6 min · Multi Pass

A 3D interactive shooting ride through five carnival games, with a scoreboard that turns the whole family competitive within about ninety seconds.

You wear 3D glasses, sit in a car with a spring-loaded shooter, and rotate between five screens playing carnival midway games: throwing rings at aliens, cracking plates, popping balloons with darts, and so on. Your score displays on the dashboard next to your partner's, and that is the entire hook. It opened in 2008 and it works as well now as it did then.

Tips for Toy Story Midway Mania!
  • Fire fast and often. The shooter has no ammunition limit and rate of fire beats accuracy on four of the five screens.
  • On the balloon screen, hit the balloons that reveal secondary targets behind them rather than clearing the easy ones; that is where the score separation happens.
  • Aim for the volcano on the plate screen and the center of the ring toss target. Both hide multipliers that most riders never find.
  • It is one of only two significant attractions here with no height requirement, so it is the natural anchor for a day with a toddler.
  • Repeat visitors: the practice screen before the first real game does not count toward your score, so use it to check your shooter is firing properly. A jammed shooter can be swapped if you flag it before the ride starts.

Full guide to Toy Story Midway Mania! →

Spinner · 1½ min · Multi Pass

A short whip-style flat ride under a canopy, with the lowest height requirement in the park at 32 inches and the shortest ride time.

Alien Swirling Saucers is a carnival whip ride dressed up as a toy playset. Saucers tow small rocket cars around two swirling patterns while music plays, and the whole cycle lasts about ninety seconds. It is the ride at Hollywood Studios with the lowest height requirement, at 32 inches, which is why families with toddlers gravitate to it.

Tips for Alien Swirling Saucers
  • 32 inches is the lowest height requirement in the entire park, which makes this the first real ride many toddlers can do at Hollywood Studios.
  • Sit inside, not outside, if you have a shoulder or neck issue. The lateral force is stronger than the ride looks.
  • Never use a Lightning Lane Multi Pass here. The ride is ninety seconds long and there are four attractions in this park where that selection is worth ten times more.
  • Waits are shortest during the first hour and during the nighttime show, and it is the only ride in Toy Story Land where the last thirty minutes of the night are usually a walk-on.
  • Repeat visitors: the ride uses two different swirl patterns and the operator selects one per cycle, so a second ride is genuinely a different path around the pad.

Toy Story Land Character Meets

Any height

Character meet · 5 min

Outdoor greetings with Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear near the entrance to Toy Story Land, with short queues most of the day.

Woody and Jessie greet together near the entrance arch, and Buzz Lightyear greets separately a short walk away. These are straightforward outdoor character meets with PhotoPass photographers, and the queues are usually far shorter than the equivalent lines at Magic Kingdom.

Tips for Toy Story Land Character Meets
  • Go in the first hour or after dark. The midday sun on this pavement is the worst in the park and there is no canopy over the queues.
  • Woody and Jessie greet together, so one queue gets you two characters. Buzz is a separate line.
  • Character sets rotate through the day with breaks. If a queue is roped off, a cast member will usually tell you the return time rather than the wait.
  • Repeat visitors: the greeting positions moved when the land's walkways were reworked, so the spots you remember from 2018 are not necessarily where they stand now.

Sunset Boulevard

A side street off Hollywood Boulevard holding the park's two biggest thrill rides, its two biggest shows and its food court.

Dark ride · 5 min · Multi Pass

A 199-foot drop ride inside a decaying hotel, with a randomized drop sequence and the best queue and pre-show Disney has ever built.

The Hollywood Tower Hotel opened in 1994 and it remains the finest piece of environmental storytelling at Walt Disney World. Before you get anywhere near a drop, you walk through an overgrown garden, a dust-covered lobby frozen mid-check-in, a library where a television plays a black-and-white introduction, and a boiler room. Every one of those spaces is built to a standard that most modern attractions do not attempt.

Tips for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • The drop profile is randomized between rides, so consecutive rides give you a genuinely different sequence. That is the argument for riding it twice.
  • Back row, outside seat, is the best combination: strongest airtime and the clearest view through the doors at the top.
  • Do the standby queue on your first ride even if you hold a Lightning Lane. The Lightning Lane route skips the gardens and most of the lobby.
  • Pockets empty out on the drops. Anything loose goes into a zipped pocket or the free cubbies at the load platform, and glasses need a strap.
  • Repeat visitors: the lobby set changes subtly over the years but the mail on the front desk, the luggage tags and the card room to the left of the queue reward a slow walk. Ask a bellhop about the hotel and they will stay in character for as long as you keep asking.

Roller coaster · 1½ min · Multi Pass

A pitch-dark indoor launch coaster with three inversions that goes from a standstill to highway speed in under three seconds; 48 inches to ride.

This is the fastest and most aggressive ride at Hollywood Studios. A twenty-four passenger train sits at a dead stop, a countdown runs, and then a linear induction launch throws you from zero to roughly sixty miles an hour in under three seconds, straight into a rollover loop. What follows is about ninety seconds of indoor track in near-total darkness with three inversions, all set to a soundtrack piped through speakers in your headrest.

Tips for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
  • Back row for the strongest launch, front row for the best look at the lighting effects. The queue splits for row selection near the load platform.
  • 48 inches is the tallest height requirement at Hollywood Studios, and there is no way around it. Rider switch is available and is the correct plan for a family with one child under the line.
  • There is a test seat outside the entrance. Use it before queueing if the over-the-shoulder harness might be a problem; the restraint is less forgiving than most modern coasters.
  • Empty your pockets completely. The three inversions will take a phone out of a loose pocket and there is no net over the track.
  • Repeat visitors: the ride audio is per-train rather than per-park, so different trains run different soundtrack mixes. Riding twice in a row usually gets you a different track.

Stage show · 25 min · Multi Pass

A 25-minute condensed stage musical of the 1991 film in a covered amphitheater on Sunset Boulevard, running since the park's early years.

This is a genuine Broadway-style production compressed to twenty-five minutes: live singers, a full costume department, choreographed ensemble numbers and a set that transforms twice. It has run at this park in some form since 1991, which makes it one of the longest-running stage shows at any Disney park, and the production values have been maintained rather than allowed to slide.

Tips for Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage
  • Sit toward the back of the center block. The choreography is built for a wide view and the front rows lose the shape of the ensemble numbers.
  • The theater is covered but not air conditioned. It is shade rather than relief, so bring water for an afternoon performance.
  • Never spend a Lightning Lane Multi Pass on this. The amphitheater holds fifteen hundred and almost never fills.
  • The last performance of the day is usually the least crowded and the coolest, and it puts you on Sunset Boulevard right where you want to be for the nighttime show.
  • Repeat visitors: the production has been restaged more than once since 1991, with revised costumes and a reworked ballroom sequence, so it is not the show you saw as a child even though the running order is familiar.

Fantasmic!

Any height

Show · 30 min · Multi Pass

The park's nighttime show: a 30-minute water, fire and projection spectacular in a 6,900-seat amphitheater, with live performers and boats.

Fantasmic! is staged in a purpose-built amphitheater carved into the hillside behind Sunset Boulevard, using a lagoon, an island stage, three walls of water used as projection screens, fire effects, live performers, a floating barge and a very large dragon. It opened at this park in October 1998 and it remains the biggest single production Walt Disney World stages on a nightly basis.

Tips for Fantasmic!
  • Center section, halfway up. That is the sweet spot for the water screens and the fire, and it keeps you out of the mist zone in the first several rows.
  • The front rows get genuinely damp from the water screens. On a cool night that matters more than people expect.
  • A Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection here gets you into a reserved seating area but not a better seat than arriving forty minutes early does. It is worth it only if you would rather ride during that window.
  • The villain sequence is the part that upsets small children, and it lasts several minutes. If your child is already tired, watch the projection show on Hollywood Boulevard instead.
  • Repeat visitors: the amphitheater empties from the top down, so seats in the upper center let you leave first even though they feel further from the exit. The lower sections take fifteen minutes to clear.

Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy

Any height

Show · 10 min · Multi Pass

A ten-minute standing show in the Sunset Showcase where a full-size Lightning McQueen vehicle appears on a wraparound screen stage.

The Sunset Showcase theater holds a wide wraparound screen and a physical Lightning McQueen vehicle on a rig in front of it. The show has him deliver a racing lesson that goes wrong, with the screen simulating a track, and it lasts about ten minutes standing.

Tips for Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy
  • It is standing room only for about ten minutes. Bring a stroller-free plan or be ready to hold a small child.
  • Stand toward the back and center. The screen wraps, and from the front you cannot take in the whole image.
  • There are character photo ops in the exit area that most people walk straight past.
  • Repeat visitors: the Sunset Showcase is a flexible venue that Disney uses for other programming at times, so confirm in the app that this show is running on the day you visit.

Animation Courtyard

A dead-end plaza off the central hub holding the park's two quietest indoor attractions and no dining at all.

Walkthrough · 30 min

A self-paced museum of Walt Disney's career with original artifacts, park models and a short film, and the quietest room in the park.

This is a walk-through exhibition covering Walt Disney's life and the company's history, running from early animation through the theme parks. It contains genuinely significant objects: original artwork, awards, a scale model of a Disneyland attraction, letters, and the desk-and-office material that most Disney fans have only seen photographed.

Tips for Walt Disney Presents
  • There is never a wait. This is the reliable fallback when a ride goes down and you need somewhere to be for thirty minutes.
  • The theater at the end is air conditioned with real seats and runs continuously, which makes it the best free sit-down in the park.
  • The preview area near the front changes and is not the point. Walk past it if the current preview does not interest you; the permanent exhibition is behind it.
  • Do not bring a child under eight expecting them to engage. Pair this with the Disney Junior show next door and split the party.
  • Repeat visitors: the display cases are rotated periodically as items go out on loan or into conservation, so a case you remember may hold something different now.

Stage show · 20 min · Multi Pass

A 20-minute interactive dance party for preschoolers with Disney Junior characters, in an air-conditioned theater with an open floor.

This is a live show built for children roughly two to seven: a host leads dancing and games, Disney Junior characters appear, bubbles and streamers come out, and the whole room is encouraged to move. There is no seating in the traditional sense; families sit or stand on an open floor and children go to the front.

Tips for Disney Junior Play and Dance!
  • Send children forward and stand at the back. The room is designed for that split and the sightlines work from anywhere.
  • It is genuinely one of the few Hollywood Studios attractions for a child under 32 inches, which makes it a scheduling anchor rather than a filler.
  • The character lineup rotates and is not published far in advance, so check the app the morning of if a specific character matters.
  • There is no seating. If standing for twenty minutes is a problem, sit on the floor with everyone else or use a wheelchair space at the side.
  • Repeat visitors: this show has been restaged more than once under different names in the same theater, so the format you remember from a previous trip may not be the current one.

Star Wars Launch Bay

Any height

Walkthrough · 20 min

An indoor Star Wars exhibition hall with film props, replicas and queued character greetings, and almost always the shortest line in the park.

Launch Bay opened in 2015 in the old animation building and it has been quietly useful ever since. It is a large, cool, dim hall containing film props and replicas, a screening room, and separate rooms where you queue to meet Star Wars characters with a PhotoPass photographer.

Tips for Star Wars Launch Bay
  • This is where you go if a child specifically wants a guaranteed photo with a named Star Wars character. Galaxy's Edge encounters are better but entirely unpredictable.
  • The character lineup rotates. Check the app the morning of if a particular character is the point of the visit.
  • The prop hall is genuinely worth ten minutes on its own, and it is empty most of the day while every ride queue nearby runs over an hour.
  • Repeat visitors: the exhibition contents have been revised several times since 2015 as new films arrived, so the props you saw on a previous trip are unlikely to all still be there.
