San Fransokyo Square opened in 2023, converting the old Pacific Wharf into the blended San Francisco and Tokyo city from Big Hero 6. The retheme was largely a dressing job — the same buildings, the same footprint — but the layering of Japanese signage, wiring, rooftop details and street furniture over the Monterey wharf architecture is convincing, and it rewards looking up rather than ahead.

There are no rides here and there will not be. The only attraction is a Baymax greeting, which is the gentlest character encounter in the park for a nervous child. Everything else is food: sourdough bread bowls, rice bowls, a full Ghirardelli soda fountain, and a waterfront bar pouring the fastest margarita in Anaheim.

Treat it as the eating district and it is one of the more useful lands in the park. Treat it as an attraction land and you will walk through it in four minutes wondering what the point was.

San Fransokyo Square tips

  • Buy a plain sourdough loaf rather than only the bread bowl — same bread, a fraction of the price, and it makes hotel breakfast the next morning.
  • The Ghirardelli indoor tables are among the only air-conditioned seats in the park. They are worth twenty minutes in August.
  • Ask for a free chocolate square at the Ghirardelli counter; they do not always offer it unprompted.
  • Look at the rooflines and the wiring rather than straight ahead. Almost all the retheme's work is above eye level.

San Fransokyo Square replaced Pacific Wharf in 2023, rethemed to the hybrid city from Big Hero 6, and its one non-food offering is a greeting with Baymax near the center of the district. He appears on a posted rotation with breaks, so check the app rather than wandering over hopefully.

Tips for Meet Baymax
  • Check the app for his appearance times. This is a rotation with real gaps, not a continuous meet.
  • Line up here between 2pm and 4pm, when the rest of the park is at its busiest and this district is mostly people eating.
  • This is the greeting to start with if your child is character-shy — no face, no voice, no pressure.
  • San Fransokyo Square has no rides at all. Budget it as a food-and-photo stop rather than an attraction land, and it will not disappoint you.

Our take: The hot fudge is made on site and applied without restraint, which is the whole argument. Split one between two people and use the indoor seating for twenty minutes.
