Toontown reopened in 2023 after a full rebuild that changed what the land is for. The old version was a set you looked at; the new one is a place small children play in. CenTOONial Park at the entrance has an actual lawn you are allowed to sit on, an interactive fountain, and a climbable tree. Goofy's How-to-Play Yard and Donald's Duck Pond are open-ended play spaces with no queues and no cycles.

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway is the headliner and the most valuable attraction at Disneyland for families with preschoolers, because it is a genuine headliner with no height requirement at all. Gadget's Go Coaster at 35 inches is the natural next coaster for a child not yet at 40. Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin is the outlier — darker, louder, and more startling than anything else in the land despite the cheerful facade.

Mickey's House and Minnie's House are walkthroughs. Mickey's ends with a guaranteed meeting with Mickey Mouse, available all day rather than on a schedule, which makes it the most reliable character photo in the park. Minnie's has no character at the end, a much shorter line, and more things a four-year-old can press.

The scheduling detail that ruins plans: Toontown frequently opens later than the rest of Disneyland, sometimes by an hour or more, and closes earlier. Check the day's hours in the app before you build a rope drop around it.

Do not miss

  • Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway with no height requirement
  • CenTOONial Park's lawn — the only one in the park you can sit on
  • Donald's Duck Pond for deliberately getting soaked
  • Meeting Mickey Mouse at the end of the house walkthrough
  • Gadget's Go Coaster as a 35-inch stepping stone

Mickey's Toontown tips

  • Toontown often opens an hour or more after the rest of the park. Check the app before planning a rope drop here.
  • Bring a change of clothes if Donald's Duck Pond is on the plan — children get soaked, not misted.
  • Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin has strobe effects and startles more toddlers than Runaway Railway does.
  • Ride Runaway Railway first, then park an adult on the CenTOONial Park lawn while the kids burn twenty minutes in the play yards.

Attractions in Mickey's Toontown

Dark ride · 5 min · Multi Pass

A trackless dark ride that puts you inside a cartoon, with no height requirement — the best headliner at Disneyland for young kids.

Runaway Railway opened at Disneyland in January 2023 as the centerpiece of the rebuilt Mickey's Toontown, three years after the Florida version. It is a trackless dark ride: the vehicles have no visible guide, they rotate and separate and regroup, and the ride uses that freedom to make it feel like the scenery is chasing you rather than passing by.

Tips for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
  • Do this early. It has no height requirement, which means every family in the park wants it, and it builds a substantial queue by mid-morning.
  • The vehicles rotate constantly, so no seat is meaningfully better than another. Do not spend energy angling for a specific car.
  • Toontown as a whole opens later than the rest of the park on many days. Check the opening time in the app before you plan a rope-drop run here.
  • Ask for the accessible car at the entrance, not at the load platform — routing it from the platform means starting the queue over.
  • This is the best pairing at Disneyland with a toddler: ride this, then let them loose in CenTOONial Park thirty seconds away while the adults take turns.
  • The pre-show involves several minutes of standing. If someone in your party cannot stand that long, tell a cast member at the entrance and they will make arrangements.

Gadget's Go Coaster

35"89cm

Roller coaster · 1 min

A 35-inch kiddie coaster that lasts under a minute, with the longest wait-to-ride ratio in the park.

Gadget's Go Coaster opened with Mickey's Toontown in 1993 and is the smallest coaster at Disneyland: one short lift, one drop, a couple of banked turns through oversized household junk, and back to the station in under a minute. The theming is that Gadget built it out of scrap, so the track runs through giant paper clips, matchboxes, and a comb.

Tips for Gadget's Go Coaster
  • This is the natural next coaster after a child clears 35 inches and before they hit the 40-inch rides. Use it as a test.
  • The wait is disproportionate to the ride — a posted 25 minutes for 50 seconds of coaster. Ride it early or right at Toontown's closing.
  • The cars are built for children. Adults ride but the fit is tight, and two full-size adults in one row does not work.
  • The queue is largely unshaded. In summer, do it before 11 AM or after the sun drops.

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin

Any height

Dark ride · 3½ min · Multi Pass

A dark ride in a taxi you can spin yourself — the strangest and darkest thing in Toontown, and not really for toddlers.

Car Toon Spin opened in 1994 and is the only ride at Disneyland based on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. You board a yellow taxi with a steering wheel in the middle that spins the cab freely, and take a three-and-a-half-minute run through a Toontown gone wrong: weasels, a warehouse, a spilled-paint sequence, and a running gag about a substance that is dangerous to cartoons.

Tips for Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin
  • If anyone in the car is prone to motion sickness, keep hands off the wheel. The cab will still turn gently and the ride is perfectly good without spinning.
  • This is the hardest ride in Toontown for small children — darker, louder, and more startling than Runaway Railway despite the cheerful facade.
  • There are strobe effects in one section. Anyone sensitive to flashing light should skip it.
  • The queue has a lot of visual jokes worth reading, including a wall of gag signage that is funnier than the ride itself.
  • It is on Multi Pass, but the standby wait rarely justifies spending a selection here when Indiana Jones and Space Mountain exist.

Goofy's How-to-Play Yard

Any height

Play area · 20 min

An interactive garden and house where kids press, pull, and crank things — free-form play with no queue.

Goofy's How-to-Play Yard came with the 2023 rebuild of Mickey's Toontown, replacing the old bounce house with something that works for a much wider age range. It is a garden and house you walk into and interact with: vegetables that pop up when cranked, musical elements, a kitchen with things that clatter, and a candy-making machine that responds to guests.

Tips for Goofy's How-to-Play Yard
  • Let kids run it themselves. Adults directing the play in here is the fastest way to shorten the visit.
  • The garden section has more shade than the house area, which matters in the afternoon.
  • Grab a seat on the perimeter and take turns supervising — the sightlines are good enough that one adult can watch the whole yard.
  • Pair this with Runaway Railway: ride first, then let the kids burn twenty minutes here while you plan the next move.

Donald's Duck Pond

Any height

Play area · 20 min

A water play area built into Toontown — the only place at Disneyland where kids can deliberately get soaked.

Donald's Duck Pond arrived with the 2023 Toontown rebuild and is a splash-and-play area with water jets, spinning elements, and shallow features aimed at toddlers and young children. It is the only water play space in Disneyland Park.

Tips for Donald's Duck Pond
  • Bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag. Children get properly soaked, not misted, and Southern California evenings get cooler than people expect.
  • Water shoes or sandals are worth packing. Wet sneakers ruin the back half of a park day.
  • The perimeter benches are shaded in the afternoon and are the best adult seating in Toontown.
  • It is right next to Goofy's How-to-Play Yard, so a soggy child can move straight to a dry activity while they drip off.

Mickey's House and Meet Mickey

Any height

Character meet · 15 min

Walk through Mickey's house and the movie barn, then meet Mickey Mouse himself at the end. The queue is the house.

Mickey's House is a walkthrough that doubles as a queue. You move through a furnished cottage — living room, kitchen, laundry, a garden — and then a barn set up as a film studio, before reaching a small room where you meet Mickey Mouse and a photographer takes pictures.

Tips for Mickey's House and Meet Mickey
  • The queue is the walkthrough, so the wait passes quickly. A posted 30 minutes here is far less painful than 30 minutes anywhere else.
  • Mickey is available all day here, unlike character appearances elsewhere that run on a schedule.
  • Slow down in the movie barn. It has the most detail in the house and everyone rushes it because they can see the meeting room ahead.
  • Bring your own camera as well — PhotoPass shoots the meeting, but the photographer will also take pictures on your phone if you ask.

Minnie's House

Any height

Walkthrough · 8 min

A walkthrough cottage full of things kids can press, open, and set off — the most hands-on interior in the park.

Minnie's House is a self-guided walkthrough of a furnished cottage next door to Mickey's. It is smaller and more interactive: a kitchen where the dishwasher runs and a cake rises in the oven when you press a button, a dressing room, an answering machine with messages you can play, and a wishing well outside that talks back.

Tips for Minnie's House
  • Push everything. Almost every appliance and object in the kitchen and dressing room does something, and most guests walk through without touching anything.
  • The wishing well in the garden outside responds when you talk to it. Kids find this before adults do.
  • It is far less crowded than Mickey's House next door because there is no character at the end, which makes it a better use of a busy afternoon.
  • If the rooms are congested, wait two minutes outside — the interior clears in waves as groups exit.

CenTOONial Park

Any height

Play area · 20 min

The green at the entrance to Toontown with an interactive fountain and a climbable tree — Disneyland's only real lawn.

CenTOONial Park opened in 2023 at the entrance to the rebuilt Toontown. It is a park in the ordinary sense: a lawn you are allowed to sit on, a fountain with interactive water elements that respond to being touched, and a large sculpted tree with hollows and roots that children climb.

Tips for CenTOONial Park
  • This is the only lawn in the park you are welcome to sit on. Use it as a regroup point rather than standing in a walkway.
  • The fountain dampens rather than soaks. If you want a full soaking, that is Donald's Duck Pond thirty seconds away.
  • Shade is limited on the lawn itself. The tree sculpture and the perimeter have the better shaded spots.
  • It sits right at the Toontown entrance, so it is the natural meeting point if your party splits up between the rides.
