What it is

Tiana's Palace opened in 2023 in the New Orleans Square building that had housed the French Market Restaurant for decades. It is counter service with a substantial courtyard, an indoor dining room, and a jazz soundtrack that changes through the day.

The food is a genuine step up from typical counter service: gumbo, jambalaya, a roasted chicken plate, muffuletta-style sandwiches, and a rotating vegetarian option, plated properly rather than dumped in a basket. Portions are large and prices sit below the table-service options thirty feet away.

It also handles dietary restrictions unusually well for a counter location, with clearly marked plant-based and gluten-free options and staff who know the answers. Combined with the courtyard seating, it is the best non-reservation meal in this part of the park.

Our verdict

The best counter-service food at Disneyland after the Plaza Inn fried chicken, and the better choice than either New Orleans Square table-service restaurant if you are not paying for atmosphere. The gumbo is the thing to order.

Tips for Tiana's Palace

  • Mobile order and then find a courtyard table before you collect. Seating is the bottleneck here, not the counter.
  • The courtyard is shaded in the afternoon and is one of the better places to eat outdoors in the park.
  • Portions are large enough that two children can split one adult plate comfortably.
  • It gets crushed immediately after Fantasmic! lets out. Eat before the show rather than after.
  • This is the strongest counter-service option for anyone eating plant-based on this side of the park.

Tiana's Palace Gumbo

Tiana's Palace

A properly built gumbo served over rice as a counter-service plate in the New Orleans Square courtyard restaurant, with a vegetarian version available.

Our take: The best counter-service dish in New Orleans Square and better cooking than the price suggests. Eat it in the courtyard before Fantasmic! rather than after, when the whole area is impassable.

Tiana's Palace: common questions

Is Tiana's Palace table service?

No, it is counter service with seating. You order at a register or through mobile order in the app and collect your food, then find a table in the courtyard or the indoor room. There are no reservations and none are needed.

What happened to the French Market Restaurant?

It closed and the building reopened as Tiana's Palace in 2023. The location, the courtyard, and the general shape of the operation carried over; the menu, decor, and theme are new.

Are there good vegan options?

Yes, unusually good for counter service. There is a marked plant-based main on the menu and the staff are well briefed on preparation. This is one of the easier places in Disneyland Park to eat a full plant-based meal rather than assembling sides.
