What it is
The Hungry Bear sits on the water at the far end of Critter Country, on two levels of open-air decking that look out over the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. It was rethemed alongside the Tiana's Bayou Adventure project and now serves barbecue plates, sandwiches, and sides.
The lower deck is the one to aim for: it is closer to the water, more shaded, and the ducks and turtles that live on the river come right up to the rail. Most guests take the first table they see on the upper deck and miss it entirely.
This is also the closest substantial food to Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which makes it the natural pairing for a Critter Country stop. Because Critter Country is a dead end, the whole area including this restaurant is quieter than its quality would suggest.
Our verdict
Solid barbecue in the best outdoor dining spot at Disneyland. Not worth crossing the park for the food, but if you are in Critter Country at mealtime this is clearly the right call.

- Take the lower deck. It is shaded longer, closer to the water, and most people never walk down to it.
- Mobile order before you get in line for Tiana's Bayou Adventure and collect after — the timing works out almost exactly.
- It is a dead-end location, which means it is one of the last places in the park to fill up at lunch.
- The riverside rail is a legitimate wildlife viewing spot. Ducks, turtles, and herons all use the river and the kids will spot them before you do.
- It closes before park closing on many nights because Critter Country shuts early. Do not save it for a late dinner.
