What it is
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind opened in 2019 as the replacement for Flik's Flyers, which had been moved from a bug's land. It is a standard amusement-park scrambler variant: gondolas on arms extending from a rotating central hub, which lift and swing outward as the ride spins up.
The theme is a tour through Riley's memories, with the gondolas presented as memory-train cars and the emotion characters from the 2015 film represented in the surrounding structure. It is one of the better-decorated flat rides at the resort, and the queue area on Pixar Pier gives it a genuinely nice setting on the water.
The problem is the 40-inch requirement on a ride this gentle. It is the same bar as Radiator Springs Racers for a two-minute spin, and it excludes exactly the audience the theme is aimed at. Plan accordingly rather than walking a four-year-old over expecting to ride.
What riding it is actually like
You sit two or three across in an open gondola with a lap bar. The hub spins up, the arms lift, and the gondolas swing outward and slightly upward for about two minutes before winding back down.
The forces are mild but continuous, and the outward swing pushes you against your seatmate. It is the sort of motion that bothers people who cannot handle sustained rotation and bothers nobody else.
Riding after dark gives you the pier lighting sweeping past on every rotation, which is a much better experience than the flat daytime version and adds nothing to the wait.
Is Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind scary?
An outdoor spinning ride where gondolas swing outward on arms as the hub rotates and tilts slightly. Nothing sudden, nothing dark, no drop. The only discomfort is sustained rotation, which is a problem for people prone to dizziness rather than for people prone to fear.

Transfer into a gondola with a bench seat and a lap bar; the step in is moderate. Riders must tolerate two minutes of continuous rotation without needing to exit.
Tips that actually help
- The 40-inch requirement is the thing to check before you walk over. It is unusually tall for how mild the ride is and it turns away a lot of preschoolers.
- Ride it at night. The rotating view of the lit pier is the only thing that elevates this above a county-fair ride.
- If anyone in your group is prone to dizziness, this is a harder ride than it looks — two minutes of continuous rotation is more than most spinners give you.
- The wait is nearly always under twenty minutes and drops to nothing during the nighttime show, which makes it a good filler while the crowd is at the bay.
- Repeat visitors: the outward-most seat in each gondola gets meaningfully more swing than the inner seats, which is worth knowing if you are riding with someone who wants either more or less.

No. There is no drop, no darkness, no speed and no sudden movement. It is a two-minute outdoor spin with a mild outward lean. The only people who struggle are those who get dizzy easily.
What replaced Flik's Flyers?
This ride. Flik's Flyers operated in a bug's land until that area closed in 2018 to make way for Avengers Campus; the Emotional Whirlwind opened on Pixar Pier in 2019 using a similar ride type with new theming.
Is it worth riding?
As a ride, it is ordinary. As a two-minute night-time spin over a lit pier with a ten-minute wait, it is a fine use of time. Do not queue thirty minutes for it.
